The University of Tasmania is offering two PhD scholarships that may appeal to AGILE members, or their colleagues. The scholarship is being offered by the University’s Tasmanian School of Business and Economics, that is currently involved in exciting research in tourist tracking and tourist behaviour.  The scholarships provide AUD $26,288 per annum (2016 rate) living allowance for 3 years, with a possible 6 month extension. This rate is indexed annually.
The scholarship details are as follows:
Sustainable Tourism for Communities in Transition (GIS Focus)
Project Description: Currently  the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) is engaged in the Sensing Tourist Tracking Research program that involves spatial tracking, movement mapping, and behaviour of tourists while in Tasmania, using GIS technology. This project is the largest of its type ever to be conducted. Within this project, applications are sought for candidates with skills in GIS analysis to assess the impact of tourism marketing campaigns, or the travel patterns of specific cohorts of tourists. The successful candidate will have skills in GIS, data manipulation and visualisation, and spatial data analytics. A keen interest in tourism, travel patterns and the scholarship of tourism are essential. The candidature will begin in February 2017. The following eligibility criteria apply to both scholarships:
1.      The scholarship is open to Australian (domestic) candidates and to International candidates.
2.      The PhD must be undertaken on a full-time basis.
3.      Applicants must already have been awarded a first class Honours degree or hold equivalent qualifications or relevant and substantial research experience in an appropriate sector.
4.      Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong research and analytical skills.
