Demografický atlas České republiky

The bachelor thesis deals with the creation of a thematic atlas focused on selected demographic characteristics in the Czechia. The main aim of the work was to create a thematic atlas with the use of Czech Statistical Office data, existing works of the Department of Geoinformatics Palacký University Olomouc and publicly available data. The work describes the whole process of creating an atlas from the theoretical definition of basic concepts, through data processing, to pre-printing preparation. For better clarity, the work is divided into theoretical and practical part.

The theoretical part deals with the issue of demography, methods of thematic cartography and it also includes a search of existing cartographic works.

The practical part represents the creation of the atlas itself. The first step of this part was to define the content of the atlas, which was created based of the assignment and of the created search. Subsequently, suitable processing methods were selected, and the design of the atlas was designed.

The preparation of the obtained data was performed in Microsoft Excel. Primary data processing and simple analysis took place in ArcMap 10.6. Graphic editing of map outputs and addition of basic and superstructure compositional elements to the map sheets was realized in the Adobe Illustrator CS6. The atlas was then completed in Adobe InDesign CS6, where the pre-printing preparation was also performed.

The main result of the work is a printed thematic atlas. The electronic version of the atlas, together with the poster and text of the thesis, is available on the website of the thesis. The results of the work can be used for further study of demographic phenomena and processes, or they can serve experts in practice for their strategic decision-making. The atlas is informative and is also intended for the public.
