The diploma thesis “Creation of a thermal mosaic of Olomouc based on aerial data“ was created at the Department of Geoinformatics at Palacký University Olomouc. The thesis deals with the entire procedure of acquisition and processing of thermal images and images acquired in the visible part of electromagnetic spectrum.
The aim of the thesis was to create a thermal mosaic based on images taken with a broadband thermal camera and a precise orthophotograph mosaic based on images taken with a photogrammetric camera. Another aim was to create a list of recommendations for working with thermal camera and for processing of thermal images. During the work on the thesis, a research dealing with the principles of thermal imaging and processing of thermal images was made.
A procedure for pre-flight preparations, aerial imaging, and subsequent processing of images acquired during two air campaigns was established during the work on the thesis. The initial data was in the form of RAW values in CSV format. Said data was converted to radiation temperature value in the form of raster created with scripts written in R and Bash programming languages. Such thermograms and images taken in the visible part of electromagnetic spectrum were subsequently used as a basis for mosaics designed in Agisoft PhotoScan Professional software.
The results contain a description of said mosaics, evaluation of comparison of temperatures acquired from the thermal mosaics and reference measure and comparison of temperatures of the mosaics through randomly generated points. The final part of results contains a list of recommendations for the acquisition and processing of thermal data.
