Summary

The master thesis is one of the final parts of the Geoinformatics Master degree Study Programme at Department of Geoinformatics, Faculty of Science, Palacky University in Olomouc (UP).

The aim of the master thesis Geoinformatic Solution of Spatial Entropy of Climatic Phenomena was to propose and realize solution of informational entropy using analytical tools of geoinformatics. Validation of proposed solutions was made upon raster datasets dealing with climate of Czech Republic.

Master thesis provides a new approach in geographical analysis and evaluation of geographical phenomena with the impact of informational entropy function as a measure of information. Up to seven new methods and realizations are presented with geoinformatic and climatic commentary throughout the text.

It is also fundamental to explain the basis of information theory and entropy function to the reader, because of clear understanding of the topic applied in geoinformatics and climatology (and geography) later in the text.

The width of entropy usage is demonstrated by couple of examples in geographical disciplines as well as in other scientific fields of study (e.g. medicine, biophysics, cybernetics, etc.).

All aims were fulfilled and websites about the master thesis were created and placed to the Department’s Internet server (for more visit http://www.geoinformatics.upol.cz). The whole master thesis with all its supplements is stored and available at the Department of Geoinformatics (UP).
