Summary

This Bachelor thesis is a final conclusion of the Geography and Geoinformatics Bachelor degree study programme at department of Geoinformatics, Faculty of Science, Palacky University in Olomouc. The object of the thesis is a description of basic principles of up-to-date computer graphics and visualization and a description of Google Earth and Google SketchUp tools.

The main aim is creation of two 3D models of building of Faculty of Science, Palacky University in Olomouc. These two models differ in their level of detail. In the more detailed model there are modelled details such as windows or decorative elements. In the less detailed model, these elements are represented only through photo textures.

Both models were compared in terms of difficulty of modelling, file size, speed of loading or problems which occurred during their creation. Creating of high-level detailed model was of course more technically demanding. However lots of photos had to be made in order to use them as photo textures for the low-detailed model. Taking of photos as well as their sequential editing took quite a long time. Therefore treatment time of creating both modes was nearly identical. Disadvantage of low-detailed model was the file size and related problems with loading etc.

Both models were visualized using Google Earth and are available to public through Google WareHouse.

Google SketchUp is very powerful tool for creating of 3D models. It’s greatest potential is in visualization of these models in Google Earth. Purpose of this thesis was to reveal this potential.
