The main purpose of this bachelor thesis consists in objective analysis of cycle infrastructure in Olomouc by using up-to-date geoinformatic technologies. The second part of this work deals with accident-data analysis and bicycle safety research.
Following methods were used in the work: collection of information and
data on the main topic, environment mapping (and surveying), GIS methods
and cartography for maps.
Data collection was based mainly on collecting relevant information for each
substep. The most important was the field-work. Designed methodics were used
for mapping (especially both for bicycle-lane and cyclepaths). Individual
ways of cycle infrastructure were mapped by GPS. Different subjects including
service points (shops and cycle repair shops) and bus stops were checked too.
All information were put into different thematic layers by using ESRI
products – ArcGIS 9.1 and ArcView 3.1. Photo documentation is available by using
hyperlink addresses.
Accident analysis is based on the Traffic Inspectorate of city Olomouc data
files research. In this work, there was used only limited data files from year
2006, and due to this fact there was no chance to express long-time trends.
Finding the most dangerous places of cycle infrastructure during the mapping
was strengthened by own long-time experience. As a result a new map (1 : 10 000)
“Dangerous cycle infrastructure places in Olomouc“ has been designed.
The contribution of this bachelor thesis is really big. The results give true picture of present cycle infrastructure in the area of Olomouc. Future users of this work should be found mainly among municipal goverment, and among Transport Research Centre (CDV) officers.
