Summary

The bachelor thesis called The Map of Vegetation Cover (NP Katon-Karagai, Altai, eastern Kazakhstan) was solved at Faculty of Science of the Palacký University in Olomouc.

This thesis was devoted to possibilities of remote sensing data usage at mapping of vegetation cover. It focused on the NP Katon-Karagai area where the research was proceed. The theoretical part of the work was concerned with the explanation of basic principles of vegetation display on satellite images. It followed by introduction to the contemporary classifications of vegetation cover and characterization of an interesting area.

Next part described procedures and processing of practical part of the work. It included the creation of vector database, the topographic map and characteristics of digital elevation model - elevation range, aspect, slope and hillshade of relief. Thanks to remote sensing methods there were created two maps of vegetation cover. First one by means of unsupervised classification and the second one by supervised classification.

For solving there were used data from field survey, older topographic maps and satellite images from ETM+ and ASTER sensors. These data were processed in ArcGIS 9.1 and Erdas IMAGINE 9.0 software.

Final results were used as a part of the documentation from the research in NP Katon-Karagai. Except of mentioned usage, this bachelor thesis could help to instruct other work that solves similar problems.
