Summary

An Analysis and Geovisualization of Environmental Hazards

The main aim of this diploma thesis, together with theoretic part dealing with definition of environmental hazard, is focused on analyses of selected hazards on the area of interest – municipality with extended competence Olomouc, required by Department of Security of The Municipality of Olomouc.

There are three main parts of simulation and evaluation of accidents and hazards – modelling of real happened accident with release of propane-butane in industrial estate in boundary city district of Olomouc, modelling of potential accidents with ammonia release in ice-stadium in Olomouc and modelling and evaluation of mobile sources of hazards – lorry transport of dangerous materials. This diploma thesis also includes time scale analyses of atmospheric pollution (consequential of project AZER) and visualization of hazardous objects in Olomouc.

The main part of the work is modelling of selected hazards in ALOHA software (Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres), an atmospheric dispersion model used for evaluating releases of hazardous chemical vapours, and interpretation of these results by geovisualization in geographic information systems – mainly in ArcGIS 9.2 and 9.3. The work of this thesis includes investigation of input data - chemical, atmospheric and information about source, many consultations with specialists, analyses of chemical releases and different possibilities of running accident, modelling in ALOHA software in planning mode (results had been confirmed by modelling in software Effects by Prof. Babinec) and subsequent geovisualisation with statistical analyses in GIS software.

The results are summarized in final documents, which are included into this diploma thesis as supplements. These documents are determined to next usage by Department of Security of The Municipality of Olomouc.

There was a CD-Rom created as an additional part of this thesis. It contains read-me file with a description of the CD structure, this diploma thesis in digital form as well as all digital files, that have been done during realisation of the work. Web sites with the results and analyses of this work are accessible from the web site of the Department of Geoinformatics, and their off-line version can be found on this CD-Rom.
