Summary

The aim of the bachelor thesis is (i) to look into the questions dealing with the localization of various maps into the GoogleMaps background and (ii) to create an interactive interface intended to examine the maps of Climate Atlas of Czechia on-line.

In terms of working with several picture formats using different softwares and making a comparison, it was concluded that the most suitable format entering the process of creating the map application would be the raster PNG, because of its simplicity and interoperability.

The map application is the most important accomplishment among those which were gained during the effort of working on the bachelor thesis. Usage of the topographic background in order to get better idea of where the climatic regions are exactly situated, is the greatest benefit of the application. Thanks to this, it can be very useful for educational purposes.

The application-formation process began with the map conversions. Interpolated grids were transformed into the WGS84 coordinate system, classified and coloured in the same way, as the maps of Climate atlas of Czechia had been, and exported into the PNG raster format. Such maps were essential for the map application – using GoogleMaps API, they were placed on the GoogleMaps background.

The structure and appearance of the application were adjusted to the requirements of the possible user group. The application was created using HTML, CSS and JavaScript technologies and optimalized for common web browsers and wide range of resolutions.

There are many possibilities how to improve the application in the future. Interactive value detection after clicking on the map, utilization of more Climate atlas of Czechia maps and translation into English are just some of the ideas.
