Summary

This bachelor thesis is focused on digital elevation model analysis. The main purpose of the project is a complete morphometric and geomorphologic analysis of a mountain range White Carpathian Mts., a part of Outer West Carpathians using GIS.

The area of interest is analysed in a couple of main terrain characteristics, as is elevation in square fields, tangential and profile curvature, slope, aspect and lenght of valleys in square fields. These characteristics are computed from a raster elevation model in grid format and presented in form of histograms, tables and maps. The purpose lies in comparing geomorphologic regions of two levels and geological units in these characteristics.

The thesis project is done using ESRI ArcView GIS 3.1 software for data preparing and vector-based operations as data digitizing and attribute tables management and open-source GRASS GIS 6.0 for raster/DEM analysis. Avenue script language and various extensions for ArcView GIS 3.1 are used for additional operations.

The main plus of this thesis lies in complete analysis of the mountain range lying on both sides of Czech-Slovak boundary, connecting data from both countries in various formats to extract one complex analysis.
