Developing user's own system upgrade is becoming more important claim for software systems, although it requires an informed user with some basic programming skills. Software that does not offer these features is not sufficient anymore. However, ArcGIS by ESRI does not belong to this category.
The goal of this bachelor thesis was to develop a set of tools for landscape structure analysis – a system upgrade for ArcGIS 9.2+ (Toolbox). The Toolbox contains functions for processing basic landscape indices (e.g. The Shape Index), other landscape characteristics and user manual. All the tools are written in Python. The toolbox is furthermore extendable by other functions.
Because toolbox is intended to serve landscape ecology needs, the application has use in environmental institutions like administrations of protected landscape areas and National Parks.
