The bachelor thesis focuses on comparing the spatial characteristics of selected European cross-border cities with the aim of analysing their common and distinct features. The thesis uses freely available data from Population Grids, HiMoC, Copernicus Urban Atlas, Corine Land Cover, and OpenStreetMap. Within the cities, data on population, urban structure, land use, and economic activity (points of interest) are compared. The theoretical section addresses the issues and terminology of cross-border cities and cross-border functional urban areas. Research focused on the analysis of cross-border cities is also included. The practical section is devoted to the identification and comparison of selected spatial characteristics of cross-border cities. Four pairs of cross-border cities were selected for the purposes of this thesis. First, the process of data selection and processing is described. The analysis and calculations are performed primarily in the ArcGIS Pro geographic information system. Accompanying analyses are performed using a script written in Python. The practical section also includes a general description of the selected cross-border cities necessary for interpreting the results. The procedure and results of the analysis are presented in the form of text, map outputs, tabular data, graphs, and a web application.
