The new web map application “Olomouc Through Time” lets you explore the city’s transformation — from Baroque fortifications to today’s modern urban landscape.
With 70+ map layers, you can compare historical plans, military surveys, land-use maps, and recent orthophotos to see how buildings, neighbourhoods, and the landscape evolved.

Created by Palacký University and the Olomouc Museum of Art, the project combines geoinformatics and history. A key part was georeferencing old maps so they align with the present-day city.
A companion story map highlights local stories — vanished monasteries, the relocation of the main station, the rise of the university hospital, and more.
The app is for everyone: from historians and urban planners to residents curious about how their street looked 100 years ago.
