Summary
The aim of the
diploma thesis called The Use of
ERDAS Imagine VirtualGIS in geological and geomorphological applications
was to formulate possibilities of ERDAS Imagine VirtualGIS in geological
and geomorphological research and to apply described methods on chosen
areas of interest. In the theoretical part, a list of possible usage of
concrete applications in geology and geomorphology was assembled with
emphasis on already realized applications. Main functions and qualities of
ERDAS Imagine VirtualGIS were described in detail and also its limitations
were discussed. In the application section, three specific studies related
to both of studied fields were implemented on chosen areas of different
scales. The projects undertaken are as follows: 3D visualization of
Olbramovice quarry, Virtual walk through the geology National park Podyjí
and Visualization of Poštovní adit in Zlaté hory ore district. The projects
were realized with emphasis on increasing the information value and
possibility of deriving new knowledge from visualized datasets and their
applications. The final phase of model creation and effects applied in
VirtualGIS had a big impact on the outputs form; however the majority of
DEM creation and raster data corrections was accomplished by using some
other software tools in the phase of raw data adjustment. Different tools
and functions of VirtualGIS were applied in these individual applications
for the most complex presentation of its possibilities. Also possible
improvements and alternative solutions were mentioned with accent on inputs
and maximal utilize of VirtualGIS and optimized outputs. The main outputs
of applications are animations of created flypaths. Also were created two
VRML scenes for 3D visualization of Olbramovice quarry and Virtual walk
through the geology National park Podyjí. Created applications are placed
on enclosed DVD in a form of VirtualGIS projects, VRML scenes and animations.
